Is MicroG safe to install?+
Yes. MicroG is free software released under the Apache 2.0 license. All source code is public on GitHub and releases are signed by the project.
Do I need root to use MicroG?+
Not necessarily. Custom ROMs like LineageOS for MicroG, /e/OS and CalyxOS ship with signature spoofing built in. On stock Android, full functionality requires root or a patched framework.
Does MicroG work without a Google account?+
Yes. Many features work without an account. A Google account is only needed when an app explicitly requires Google sign-in or FCM tied to a Google project.
Will banking apps work with MicroG?+
Most banking apps that rely on SafetyNet or Play Integrity work, especially when the ROM provides a valid keybox. Results vary by bank.
What is the difference between MicroG and Google Play Services?+
MicroG is a clean-room reimplementation. It uses the same APIs but contains no proprietary Google code, no ads and no telemetry.
